Yes I did, and I see the parallels you are drawing.
But there is a big difference in my mind.
Middle America knows the name of Floyd George and even in the conservative parts I visited I never heard someone say the killing was justified or the officer was in the right. never. I did hear people bring up the topic of his prior arrests trying to imply that there was some justification in there, but they would quickly finish by saying it was still wrong.
I think Trump can and will slide many actions through assuming (correctly) that America often won't be looking.
I just don't think Floyd will be one of those cases. The protests ensured all will remember him, and the brutality of the murder will keep them from fully white washing the crime.
For me, that is the difference.
but if I am wrong and he does it, Republicans will loose votes. It will be remembered as wrong by many on both sides of the aisle.
