Will, so what is your prediction here? Do you predict that the AI companies will not be able to use their models or train new ones, so the world just looses GPT-like technology forever?

I do agree that AI companies are getting an unfair free ride here, and that it will end. Still I don't think the copyright holders nor the gov really want to kill the goose that lays golden eggs here. I think some kind of compensation structure will evolve from this that funnels serious chunks of profit to the copyright holders, but not so much that it bankrupts the AI companies. This just does not seem to be in anyone's interest.
