We need more articulate conservative voices on Medium, so please keep posting.

Over and over again you wrote 'untrue' and explained how there was another important factor ignored.

I think you are right, but I think it would have been more accurate to say, not ENTIRELY true. Often there was a grain of truth in the liberal's position (I think), but also there was a deliberate non-consideration of an important other reason.

I think there is some truth to the idea that conservatives understand liberals better than the reverse. So why is that?

In my experience at an emotional level liberals worry about protecting the weak, and conservatives worry about protecting the self. I am not making any assertion about which leads to a better society.

BUT, you can see what the unfavorable interpretation would look like:

-- The liberal as a bone-head. The conservative does not dispute the intention of the liberal, thus they must dispute their RATIONALITY in gaining a good outcome.

-- The conservative as a selfish bastard. The liberal does not dispute the intention to afford personal control to each, but they can explain assuming SELFISH intentions.

Notice the asymetry. The natural path in one case is to impune intelligence, while in the other it is to impune morality. I personally think there is good evidence supporting BOTH sides challenge of the other side. but it does lead to liberals not understanding intent while conservatives DO understand intent and instead dismiss logical arguments made by liberals. (which I think conservates do quite often.)

so here is my update:

Libererals are often ignorant of conservative intent

Conservatives are often ignorant of liberal's technical arguments.

I am from Kentucky and live in San Francisco, so I see both up close. Conservatives will often dismiss with out digging into an argument based on the source of the argument. Liberals will dismiss a conservative stance as INTENDED to be selfish, and minority-bashing, without really investigating those assumptions about intent. (Indeed some liberals responding here are making assumptions about your intent.)
