Putin enjoys significant support from the population who views him as as a strong leader and getting strong benefits for his nation.

The advantage of allowing visa is people can leave, but Russia already limits all men over 18, so I think the brain drain will be limited to women.

The other advantage of allowing visa, is it gives Russians direct contact with folks who will dramatically challenge their world view that this is what many Ukrainians want.

On the other hand, really showing them that the ENTIRE western world thinks they are assholes.... not just the Americans, is also a potent message.
