this is interesting and might be true in a short term tactical sense. but it seems in a longer term geopolitical sense the US, EU, and Russia have lost out and India and especially China have won big.

For many reasons, countries may align with the USA increasingly during this time, and if the USA wants to retain its dominance it must do it thru collations. Even now we see lines being drawn and sides being chosen. Russia has been pushed into league with China for decades to come. China can get oil at a permanently reduced rate as Russia has few alternate buyers.
Tying Russia to the EU is in our interest, but now that is gone.
I am a realist. Russia would never be a friend like Canada, its ambitions to power prevent that. Still they are happy to have economic ties.
