the comparison to Japanese is not a great one. The average Japanese knew his country began a war with a sneak attack, and now they have lost. The average Palestinian views this as Israel taking their land, now they must get it back.

The average Japanese had zero ability to harm the USA thousands of miles away, while any in Gaza can dream of killing Israelis and often can succeed at it if they really try. The situations are quite different.
