Sure the rich of Europe would not like your "downsize everything" idea. But notice Europe itself probably would not have liked it either. Since the US and China are not slowing down, thus most all of the world GDP would occur outside of Europe.

Now maybe they should shift away from energy based industries... but that is a shift away from ALOT of industries.
