Solution:
- Dont vilify Republicans, but DO vilify key actions: e.g. status quo on police brutality.
- Don’t use stupid ambiguous slogans like “defund police”
- Do mention the limits or qualifiers on any proposed action. e.g. improve immigration process
- Dont respond to any bating (e.g. Trump talking about the squad), keep 100% of the conversation about those aspects of ones policies that have broad support. e.g. job support
The problem with this strategy is that it is good for either party as a whole, but it does not appeal to the base on either side, so neither parties Politicians really follows the strategy very well. Only the electorate can demand this, but currently we are not smart enough to do so.
Indeed as an electorate we are demanding increasingly strident positions from “our side”
