My opinion is a bit more nuanced:
AirBnB allows society to do more with less, when it converts an extra room into a cheap place for someone who hope to travel for less. AirBnB provides greater control to the host. Many will AirBnB places that they would never rent out to a long term tennant with all the rights they have.
But buying a second home and renting it out, yeah that is distorting the market. Charging much higher taxes on that second house is a great idea. Those rich enough to pay, are then subsidizing many needed services, and that will greatly limit its use for AirBnB.
So in my opinion, this "AirBnB is bad" message is 1/2 right.
