It seems the drive toward power it indeed in us all. Further growth of and exercise of one abilities also seems to have some kind of intrinsic benefit. But it also seems striving in the absence of some externally provided goals ends up vacuous and unsatisfying. We were built to work in service of something larger than ourselves to which we believe.

It seems you are trying to deny this second impulse. It seems there are many broken people down that path.
