I think the wealth comparison to the USA is not accurate.

Specifically I am talking about the comparison of the USA to other countries. It is true that the USA has a relatively high income inequality, but the median 50% mark for the USA is also one of the highest in the world.

I tried to find the comparative income for the lowest 25%, I could not, but inferring from relative measures of inequality, I expect that the USA will still fair pretty well in comparing absolute dollars of purchasing power even of its lowest 25%.

Perhaps SUBJECTIVELY one FEELS poorer in the USA since one can see folks who are much wealthier nearby. That could be true.

But in absolute terms, the poor of America are generally financially better off (can afford more things) than folks in other places. This could be significantly off in bigger cities if the wealthy there are driving up the prices of things... but that seems less of an issue in rural America.

And perhaps also America just has a far more consumer oriented culture, thus folks just FEEL poorer here.
