If you insist on climbing the mountain in a single step you will fail. It can never work.

Instead you must a path that improves both sides over time. You may or may not crest the mountain, but you will be higher than you are today. (and I think there are some virtuous feedback loops that will push the system to the peak, but let me not argue that.... just argue that I have gotten them higher.)
