Still there really is a notable minority of conservatives that support social freedoms, but do not support government benefits. you have the right to persue happiness, but no guarantee of support in persuing it.

It is a logical position to take, and it likely is the position that most took when our country was founded. (e.g. the gov provided zero personal benefits except minimal maintaince of some public spaces)
