I feel this article dodges an important reality. If you choose not to have kids, much of society DOES judge you. (just as your words do in this phrase: … becoming fashionable rather than a declaration of eternal selfishness?)

I have never used the term (I was without offspring until 1month ago), but I can understand why many would. They are defending against the idea that they are somehow broken. They are owning their state as a choice with benefits. most will still look at them as a kind of 1/2 adult 1/2 completed life.

I get the sense that you actually agree with that assessment. Well ok, I can’t argue, but don’t expect those w/o children to go along with self inflicting that same assessment!

(but by the way I am SUPER happy that I finally made the switch :-)
