Great post. Too few here seem to “get it”
Great post, and Liu Cixin’s book is great too. It is frustrating to see how many respondents here really don’t seem to get the crux of the argument. I don’t know what probability I give to this story being accurate. It is terrifying. Most are not terrified, since they find it implausible. But their sense of implausibility stems from lack of experience with this context, not from anything implausible about the argument. So I am not reassured.
Killing thousands by taking down a skyscraper with a plane, was once so implausible, we did not take simple precautions (like strong cockpit doors). But the logic required to understand the true plausibility of such a thing was known before 2001, it was considered before 2001. We just didn’t believe what logic told us.
The only difference here: We won’t get to learn from this mistake.
Yeah… if you got the argument, you should be terrified by it.
