EVEN $25K / YEAR IS RICH

If we look at the world as a whole the bottom third earns a median salary of $1-$3/day. And they survive. If one is efficient about purchasing calories and smart about choosing location to live, one can thrive on much less money.

Even though we know this is true, we don’t accept this group as a reasonable comparison case. In a similar way, the person saying they are strapped at $350K has a set of expectations that make this a stretch.

I do agree that it is a bit ridiculous for such a person to say they are just getting by. And it is ridiculous for all of us in the first world with a stead job to say we are “just getting by” — we just have expectations above our income — just like the guy w. $350K…
