Dude that sucks! just so far from my imagining. of course I imaging that regularly *something* would happen to remind you of racism from *someone*. But the idea that most white you interact with harbor multiple items on that list…. SUCKS.
I will say, growing up in Kentucky was very white-bread kind of place. Racism was not a thing thought about very often, since race was mostly all white. When I moved to Washington DC, I realized that I did have a real tendency to lump “black people” into a singular group and had many implicit stereotypes loosely attached. But DC is a BLACK town, the density of professionals, all the way down to the homeless are well represented. It occurred to me (after living there some time) just how deep that implicit “lumping” was in my mind… and how at odds it was to the massive variety that I interacted with on a daily basis. Even now I catch myself thinking with that inaccurate mental shortcut about “black people”. Nothing malicious in it, but it is a pernicious tendency!
That said, this beliefs on the list felts like “straw-man caricatures” of a racist person… I doubted that most urban whites would hold many of them.
Sad to learn that even my relatively pessimistic view of humanity was not pessimistic enough!
