This is an agenda that left and right could get behind.

This is an agenda that would matter 10 years later.

When society has grown weary of this issue and moves on to the next crisis, what of consequence will really have changed?

The current castigation of the police will change nothing... but if the aggrevied party were to latch onto an agenda like this one... one could gather support from both sides. Enough to make a change.

True independent oversight is not in the short term interest of the police, nor in the interest of political leaders. It is not a controllable thing, and will often blow things up to large proportions... even in the many other cases that otherwise would not go viral...

So many might pretend to support such a thing, but it will not actually further their interests, and it really will regularly give good cops a black eye, because of bad cops.

But it is also the best way to make lasting change. If it were truly independent and drawing representation from the full range in society, it could not help itself from speaking up. regularly.

Now is the time to for the aggrieved party to get focused and latch onto an achievable difference that would make a difference.
